Judge gives 'green light' to controversial New York driver's license law in blow to Trump admin

A federal judge on Tuesday cleared the way for New York’s so-called Green Light Law, ruling against the Trump administration’s effort to block the state from giving people driver's licenses without requiring proof that they are in the U.S. legally. U.S. District Judge Anne M. Nardacci found that the Justice Department — which sued New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and state Attorney General Letitia James in February — had failed to prove its claims that the state law sought to invalidate federal law or that the measure unlawfully regulates or unlawfully discriminates against the federal government. "As I said from the start, our laws protect the rights of all New Yorkers and keep our communities safe," James said in a statement. "I will always stand up for New Yorkers and the rule of law." U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi alleged when announcing the lawsuit that Hochul and James were prioritizing "illegal aliens over American citizens," as the controversi...

Kamala Harris suggests mocking her cackle is sexist: 'Out-of-touch standards'

Former Vice President Kamala Harris suggested that it is sexist to mock her distinctive cackle. Harris made the comment during a recent appearance on the "Rich Little Broke Girls" podcast, when she recalled a reporter asking her about criticisms of lacking humility. "I don’t aspire to be humble. Humility, yes, is very important. [It’s] a very dated perspective on who women should be. To say, women should be humble. Women should be quiet. Women should laugh quietly," Harris said. KAMALA HARRIS SAYS SHE HASN'T DECIDED ON 2028 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN AMID REPORT SHE'S 'STEPPING TOWARD' RUN "Women should not have a sense of humor. Women should not raise their voice," she continued. "I have never felt burdened by those very dated, and I think out-of-touch standards." The former vice president has previously argued that sexism was to blame for criticism of her cackle, including during an April 2024 interview with talk-show host Drew...

New Trump admin envoy says US won’t ‘conquer’ Greenland, emphasizes talks with locals as Denmark balks at move

President Donald Trump ’s newly appointed envoy to Greenland said Tuesday the administration wants to open a dialogue with residents of the territory, stressing the U.S. is not seeking to "conquer" the island. During an appearance on Fox News’ "The Will Cain Show," Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, who was tapped as special envoy to Greenland by Trump on Sunday, said discussions must be had with Greenlanders to understand what they want moving forward. "What are they looking for? What opportunities have they not gotten? Why haven't they gotten the protection that they actually deserve?" Landry said. Landry added that the U.S. "has always been a welcoming party," and that the Trump administration is not going to "go in there trying to conquer anybody" or "take over anybody's country." MORNING GLORY: The president ends 2025 with a clear declaration of the Trump doctrine

America has many allies in what promises to be a decades-long Cold War 2.0 between the U.S. and its allies and the alliance of tyrants, led by the People’s Republic of China’s Xi Jinping , Russia’s Vladimir Putin, Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un. This quartet of dictators has some fourth-string powers allied with it in our hemisphere, like Venezuela’s Maduro and Cuba’s Miguel Díaz-Canel, who succeeded the Castro brothers (though Raul is still doddering around at 94 with some influence.) President Donald Trump is in the process of securing the Western Hemisphere against this alliance by placing a quarantine on Maduro’s oil and drug exports from Venezuela. Cuba can only export sugar and secret police and is already in an advanced state of economic collapse. It is heavily dependent on Venezuelan oil, and the spigot for that has been turned off by 45-47. Xi, Putin and Khamenei can’t live forever, and succession battles within tyrannies are never guaranteed to run s...

White House says no to Catholic bishops' call for Christmas pause in immigration enforcement

Florida's Catholic bishops made an appeal on Monday for a pause in immigration enforcement for the Christmas holidays, but the White House said operations will continue. The appeal to President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was issued by Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski and signed by seven other members of the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops. "The border has been secured," Wenski wrote. "The initial work of identifying and removing dangerous criminals has been accomplished to a great degree. Over half a million people have been deported this year, and nearly two million more have voluntarily self-deported." "At this point, the maximum enforcement approach of treating irregular immigrants en masse means that now many of these arrest operations inevitably sweep up numbers of people who are not criminals but just here to work," he continued. "It should be noted that a significant majority of those detained in Alligator Alcatraz ...

FCC announces ban on new Chinese-made drones over national security concerns

The Federal Communications Commission announced on Monday that it would ban new foreign-made drones , citing national security concerns. The FCC said it was adding uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) and their critical components made in China and other foreign countries to its "covered list" that features equipment that has been determined to pose an "unacceptable risk" to U.S. national security and the safety of Americans. Specific drones or components would be exempt if the Pentagon or Department of Homeland Security determined they did not pose such risks. The distinction prohibits the products from being sold or imported in the U.S. The order does not apply to technology that has already been sold in the U.S. The agency said that allowing foreign-made UAS and component parts to be sold in the U.S. "undermines the resiliency of our UAS industrial base, increases the risk to our national airspace, and creates a potential for large-scale attacks during large g...

Here's how we can live and work with artificial intelligence without losing our humanity

The Vatican’s recent document on artificial intelligence , Antiqua et Nova — "The Old and the New" — is not a technical treatise, but a philosophical reminder: The advance of AI provokes in new ways fundamental questions about the nature of intelligence and the kind of people we must become to wield powerful tools responsibly. Pope Leo XIV has echoed this concern, praising AI as an "exceptional product of human genius" while warning that instant access to information can swiftly become a counterfeit for genuine understanding — especially by the young, whose intellectual and moral development will be stunted if machines do the "thinking" for them. You need not be a person of faith to recognize the problem. Geoffrey Hinton, the "Godfather of AI," has warned that the risks have moved beyond science fiction, and is increasingly worried about AI’s ability to outperform humans in ways that are not in the best interest of humanity.
